This course addresses the various dimensions of English language and applied linguistics; in the 1st year students are introduced to the nature of language and communication in general and English language in particular; in the 2nd year students explore in more detail some of the main applications in linguistics as well as focus on areas such as semantics; phonetics and phonology and the analysis of text and communication; language use is explored in terms of sociolinguistic issues including manifestations and perceptions of power and identity at the individual; social; national and international level; students also have the opportunity to investigate specific uses of language particularly newspaper and advertising styles; political rhetoric and the language of literary criticism; in the 3rd year students deepen their knowledge of the historical background of English including theories of language change from Old English to modern times and develop awareness of the nature and characteristics of language use in terms of present day spoken communication.

Расположение

Наши основные кампусы расположены в Кембридже и Челмсфорде, оба в часе езды на поезде от Центрального Лондона. Кембридж расположен всего лишь в часе езды на поезде от Лондона, до него можно доехать по трассе M11. Из Челмсфорда можно быстро добраться до Лондона, всего лишь за 30 минут на поезде, город имеет хорошее транспортное обеспечение со всей страной.
