Year 1: Biological diversity and evolution; introduction to human physiology (30 credits); molecular cell biology (30 credits); molecules, cells and organisms; practical biology. Year 2: Cellular metabolism; essentials of genetics; enzymes in biology and medicine; immune system and disease; introduction to microbiology; principles of molecular biology. Years 3 and 4: Advanced molecular biology; animal physiology; antimicrobials; applied biochemistry; aspects of bacterial disease; cell signalling; environmental microbiology; human and evolutionary genetics; physiology of excitable cells; plants and humans; protozoa and viruses of human importance; research techniques in molecular biology; statistics for biologists; vertebrate reproduction; final year of the BSc a literature project (30 credits) or an experimental project (60 credits) must be undertaken.
