All of Northeastern’s economics majors start with two courses in the principles of economics as an introduction. They are followed by three required courses in statistics, microeconomics theory, and macroeconomic theory as a core to build analytic and data skills. The B.S. degrees require econometrics, a more advanced statistics course, while the B.A. degrees require an economic history class. Depending on the degree a student then selects between three and seven electives chosen from among courses in the fields of economics to gain experience in applying the core skills. Seniors students take a seminar that involves writing and presenting a significant original essay.
