Studio based production and studio based post-production are taught in conjunction with BBC Training and Development; typically, students attend 2, week long, residential blocks of study at BBC Training and Development, in Wood Norton, Worcestershire; these intensive, immersive courses are hands-on; students also receive 2 BBC training courses of lectures and additional teaching to further extend this professional grounding; each training block at Wood Norton involves 4 nights away from the University campus and students incur some modest additional costs; it is expected that this programme especially appeals to those with a background in such creative areas as art and design, multimedia, visual or media studies with a strong interest in film and television production; to this end, it is envisaged that successful candidates are able to produce evidence of such interest and experience; this could take the form of interview, personal statement or portfolio; on the successful completion of this programme students are able to: demonstrate proficiency in camera and studio techniques; analyse, design, and create motion graphics and visual effects; produce and manage assets in a variety of media (text, image, animation, sound, video); use a variety of technologies employed in the televison and film production and post-production industries; work effectively in film and video studios; understand and follow emerging technologies related to the production and post-production industries; take into account technical, social, ethical and legal issues in the entertainment business; work effectively, both independently and as part of a team. Year 1: Typical modules: Multimedia production I; concepts of animation; television production; introduction to studio based production; personal development programme. Year 2: typical modules: design for moving image; 3-dimensional animation; contemporary art and film; studio based production; professional development. Final year: typical modules: a substantial individual double project (equivalent to 2 taught courses) on a topic chosen by the student; studio based post production; plus option.

This programme offers students the chance to develop creatively and technically; it affords the opportunity to acquire both the latest techniques and traditional skills in television and film production and post-production, including: use of professional cameras; roles in the studio; editing skills; digital compositing; visual effects; presentation design and animation techniques for motion graphics are also included; this programme allows for original and creative minds who want to explore specialist areas of television and film production and post-production and develop a portfolio ready for industry; this programme is delivered in partnership with BBC Training and Development.
