Families and couples stream: The 1st module provides a learning experience in: engagement; the therapeutic relationship; genograms; systemic questioning; formulation of first order theories; ethics; systemic formulation (incorporating second order practice); the ability to be reflexive (clinical logs); the legislative framework that families find themselves in; and skills and knowledge in convening and engaging; the 2nd module focuses on: an exploration of the process of change: in particular the postmodern approach to systemic practice; the use and application of research; intercultural issues; the application of systemic theory to particular interests of the participants as well as the general application of this theory; child-focused stream: the focus of the 1st module is on children in the family context; introduces students to diverse family structure and functioning; the different meanings and values attached to childhood both across and within cultures; and wider issues of diversity, including gender, culture, race and ability; the 2nd module focuses on children in health settings and children in the public domain; covers the range of needs, dilemmas and issues for children and families seeking help for psychological, behavioural and other health related difficulties.
