Level 1: Students are equipped with a range of drawing; making and visual communication skills before completing projects which explore all four pathways; a study tour to New York is undertaken in conjunction with projects for the final term of the year. Level 2: Students follow their chosen pathway focussing on materials and technical and construction details whilst devising innovative design solutions; students may gain work experience at professional design practices as part of their studies. Level 3: In preparation for their degree show; third year students pursue projects to an advanced, sophisticated standard; final major projects may result from study tours or be initiated by students’ own investigation; a written dissertation is expected to accompany design work and students graduate with their pathway named in their award e.g.; BA ( Hons) Spatial Design; Exhibition Design.

Spatial design involves creating internal and external spaces for a wide variety of activities and functions; spatial designers are presented with sites; settings and situations which may contrast greatly in size from compact living or performance spaces to expansive rural or urban landscapes; whilst specialising in a specific pathway, students are also expected to explore the nature of contemporary design and become multidisciplinary.
