These are based on adult learning principles and combine enquiry-based learning (problem solving), self-directed and taught modules with practical skills workshops; in the first 2 years, students study, issues; concepts; theories; knowledge; skills, relating to practice; in the first 2 years, students choose 4 options from subjects including but not limited to creative therapies; working with children; vocational rehabilitation; mental health; students study with other healthcare students and cover topics such as literature search and critique; communication and teamwork; anti-oppressive practice; legal and ethical issues; health psychology and social policy; personal and professional development; research methods; students complete a 7-week placement in year 1; 10-week placement in year 2; 12-week placement in year 3; these allow students to gain real life experience of occupational therapy; students develop therapeutic skills under supervision; students’ practice placements integrate academic learning with clinical practice.
