Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent qualification in relevant area; or appropriate research or professional experience at postgraduate level; candidates with relevant Masters degree or recognised equivalent or substantial appropriate research leading to published work may be registered directly for PhD.

The Clinical Research Centre for the Health Professions brings together research in the disciplines of occupational therapy, physiotherapy and podiatry; it is managed by a steering group of academic staff, representing the three professions, which is responsible for assuring the quality of the research student experience; the group also plans research strategy to develop collaborative work and foster links with outside agencies and other research centres within the university; a particular strength of the CRC is its multidisciplinary approach, drawing on parallels of multidisciplinary work undertaken in the clinical setting; we have well-established links with other research centres in the university, encompassing sport science, information technology, bio-engineering and pharmacy, nursing and midwifery, and applied social science, and externally with NHS trusts, higher education institutions, both nationally and internationally, and industrial companies.
