The programme prepares successful students to be effective physiotherapists within a constantly changing health and social care environment; physiotherapists have to have detailed knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, movement and function together with excellent communication skills and team work; an understanding of the social, cultural and psychological factors affecting people are also required; interdisciplinary working is encouraged through a number of initiatives across the Faculty of Health and Social Care, these include campus and practice based activities; successful completion confers eligibility for the graduate to apply for membership of The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and initial membership with the Health Professions Council (HPC); continued registration with the HPC is dependant on meeting the conditions laid down by the Council; graduates have varied career opportunities, in particular within health and social care, private healthcare, sport and industry; this programme consists of a combination of university based and physiotherapy practice based modules; on university based modules students cover a range of areas of contemporary physiotherapy practice as well as the clinical and behavioural sciences that underpin practice; development of their competence and transferable skills is emphasized; students study the research process, learning how to apply current evidence to their practice; students develop skills in reflection and critical appraisal.
