THis course allows students to become an informed users of the Russian language and to develop their understanding of Russian culture, history and society; at the same time students learn about philosophical issues that have challenged thinkers for centuries. RussianThis course focuses on small-group teaching, and students are taught by internationally renowned experts in their field; beginners and post-A level students follow separate Russian language courses tailored to their levels for 2 full years; the core programme in Russian culture and civilization complements language instruction at each level; students study up to three Slavonic languages and spend at least 1 semester in Russia during their year abroad; students’ gain a thorough grounding in all aspects of spoken and written Russian, including conversation, reading, translating and oral presentation; the course also hones students’ reading, presentation and writing skills in English.PhilosophyThe programme offers a range of courses taught by researchers who are experts in their fields; students can develop their understanding of the key areas of philosophy such as ethics, philosophy of mind, theory of knowledge, political philosophy, metaphysics and logic through the course of their 3 years; there are also modules on major figures in the history of philosophy such as Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Hegel and others.
