Course uses materials drawn mainly from south-eastern England and investigates current debates and arguments not only about local societies but also their relation to wider historical change; a key part of the course is training in the use of historical documents and sources from the manuscripts of the early modern period through to oral history.

The campus is surrounded by the South Downs National Park, but just a few minutes away from the lively city of Brighton and Hove.
