The first year provides students with an insight into key disability issues and related D/deaf perspectives; it also introduces students to British Sign Language and sign linguistics; year 2 brings a sharp focus on the D/deaf community itself, including D/deaf issues in disability practices; it also investigates the fascinating subject of deafness and language development; the third year explores key themes of deaf blind policies and practices technological issues related to deafness; students will also have the opportunity to enhance their sign language skills as well as the option to work or research within the deaf community; in education studies, students can study modules in comparative education during years 1 and 3; contrasting European education systems will give a wider insight into educational aims and approaches; students can study the multi-disciplinary nature of education and training, and gain historical and current perspectives on a range of educational issues;in year 2, students will consider the social and psychological influences that affect student achievement; for example, what role does social class play in achievement in education? participants can also explore the ways in which beliefs, values and politics shape education; work experience in a college or school will be a feature of the second and third year studies, as well as further exploration of research methods in education; year 3 explores the wider world of education, employment and training, and looks at the key current issues that influence standards and attainment in education; students will also undertake an independent research project of their choice.
