Students learn to: Critically analyse theories which have influenced museum and gallery educational philosophies; use museum and gallery collections as a basis for curriculum development in their own particular specialist area; interpret museum and gallery collections and other heritage sites, e.g. gardens, industrial sites and historic buildings; develop a conceptual framework for professional practice; articulate an academically rigorous argument for 'learning through culture'; course provides an opportunity for: practical and theoretical study of museums and galleries as educational resources; engagement with current funding and policy-making initiatives and legislation within the cultural sector; understanding contemporary debates on e-learning in museums and galleries; learning on site at the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Science Museum and Tate with members of their education departments.
