Year 2: Assessment and direct practice in social work; introduction to research; law and social policy; applied social sciences; professional practice workshops; assessed practice placement. Year 3: Research dissertation; contemporary issues in social work and social care; continuing professional development; professional practice workshops; assessed practice placement.

Course prepares individuals to work in the public, private and voluntary social care sectors in posts which require effective professional social work skills with people in their own homes, in the community, in residential and day care settings; each student undertakes 200 days in a placement such as working with older people in a residential or day care setting, working with adults with learning disabilities or working in a mental health day care and drop-in service.
