This course provides students with a broad-based education in the technological aspects of the textile industry; it deals with all of the processes involved in developing and producing textile products, including: fibre manufacture; spinning; weaving; knitting; wet processing; textile testing; the course aims to develop a critical and innovative approach towards manufacturing techniques and practices; the focus of the course is on developing an in-depth understanding of the supply chain for textile products; students learn about: the textile industry; textile materials and manufacture; technical textiles; textile product evaluation; developing product specifications; textile sourcing and merchandising and marketing; the aim of the course is to be as practical as possible, to enhance students’ employment prospects after graduation; the course also includes an optional work placement module; this placement may be of any duration between 10 working days to a full year; the module is formally assessed through a report, workplace assessment and presentation.
