Year 1 covers analytical techniques including dating techniques; understanding environmental evidence; ways natural materials have been used and altered by humans; these are complemented by those which encourage handling a range of ancient materials from stone and metal through to samples viewed through the microscope; techniques learnt are then applied to modules that focus on reconstructing the development of human society in Europe over the last two millennia BC. Years 2-3 build on skills and expertise acquired in first year; range of modules includes those concentrating on specialist aspects with a wide choice of optional laboratory and lecture- based modules in archaeology along with one or more modules from the Faculty of Science.
