This course is based in the department of History and taught jointly with the department of Politics; the course provides a comparative and international perspective on the world, offering modules on Europe, Africa, South and East Asia, Australasia and the Pacific; the impact of both imperialism and decolonisation is emphasized; influential movements and worldviews and their origins are also explained; although the main focus of the course is modern history and politics, the flexible structure of the course enables students to choose modules from earlier periods; the inter disciplinary curriculum helps students to understand the history and politics of a wide range of different periods and regions of the world; our students develop transferable skills including communication and presentation skills, working in groups, writing reports and essays, gathering information and planning projects; at level 1, students take modules including introduction to political analysis, human nature, reason and desire: an introduction to western political thought, The globalisation of world politics, and paths from antiquity to modernity; at levels 2 and 3 students deepen their subject knowledge by taking further core and optional modules and a project module.
