Accounting and Finance is concerned with the measurement and disclosure of financial information. The Accounting and Finance programmes at Aberystwyth aim to develop an understanding of how financial data may be manipulated in order to influence managers, investors and decision makers. Students will also develop an understanding of how the presentation of financial information can impact on the longevity of a company or public sector organisation. Throughout the programme students will develop the skills and expert judgement for financial manipulation and presentation and an understanding of the legal framework regulating operational practice. The programme aims to enable students to develop a broad understanding of the operational context and the impact financial measurement and disclosure has on cash-flow streams, internal policy and management systems. The business economics programme applies economic knowledge to issues related to business policy, and promotes the use of business statistics and graphic illustration, as opposed to mathematical theoretical concepts and proofs. The programme uses economics theory and operational techniques and tools as a perspective for considering aspects of business, finance and management.
