The current activities of BERG focus on fast pyrolysis and gasification of biomass with complementary work on system design and technical; economic and commercial evaluation including: biomass production; preparation and pretreatment; fast pyrolysis of biomass and waste in ablative and fluid bed reaction systems for production of bio-oil; with design; modelling; biomass pretreatment; catalysis; optimisation; characterisation and upgrading of bio-oil from fast pyrolysis; development of applications for bio-oil for combustion in engines; turbines and boilers; and biorefinerries including the production of chemicals including resin precursors; slow release fertilisers and preservatives; bioenergy system analysis by performance economics and environment; management of SUPERGEN (EPSRC); ThermalNet (European Commission); PyNe (IEA Bioenergy); membership of Bioenergy Network of Excellence (European Commission).

Расположение

Академгородок университета Астон уникально расположен в самом центре Бирмингема и при этом представляет собой более 20 га утопающего в зелени и огороженного от городской суеты пространства.
