The Institute coordinates, encourages and promotes research specifically devoted to the following topics: (Critical) discourse analysis, political discourse analysis; corpus linguistics; dialectology; foreign language teaching and learning; forensic linguistics; intercultural communication; language of business culture; language policy; linguistics, applied linguistics, sociolinguistics; metaphor research; translation studies.

Вступительные требования

Upper 2nd class Honours degree or equivalent from an overseas university and a Masters degree is an advantage; also anyone who is not a native speaker of English and who has not already studied in a university in an English speaking country will need to pass the IELTS test at level 7.0 or have a TOEFL equivalent.

Расположение

Академгородок университета Астон уникально расположен в самом центре Бирмингема и при этом представляет собой более 20 га утопающего в зелени и огороженного от городской суеты пространства. Кампус находится в 5-10 минутах ходьбы от центра Бирмингема с его деловой частью, а также многочисленными магазинами, ресторанами, музеями, театрами, кинотеатрами, пабами и клубам.

В 20 минутах езды на поезде расположен Международный аэропорт Бирмингема с прямыми рейсами в Европу.
