While the decision is based upon test scores and high school GPA, students must have completed course requirement in their high school curriculum. These include:
English - 4 yearsSocial Studies - 3 yearsMathematics - 3 yearsThis must include 1 year of Algebra I, 1 year of Algebra II, and one year of Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, or AnalysisScience - 2 yearsThis must include 1 year of Biology and 1 year of a Physical Science. Transcript evaluation utilizes a 4.0 scale. The ACT or the SAT is required of all freshman international applicants, as well as freshman transfer applicants with less than 30 semester credit hours. Submit a TOEFL score of 79 for the internet based test OR 213 on the new computerized test OR 550 on the written paper-based test. A band score of 6.5 or better on the IELTS is also acceptable. Average ACT range for entering Freshmen: 24 - 30
Average SAT range for entering Freshmen: 1090 - 1350

Average GPA for entering Freshmen: 3.74

Students graduating with English majors have found careers as writers, marketing and advertising professionals, paralegals, teachers, editors, and other similar professions. Others have chosen to pursue graduate or professional education, including advanced degrees in English or in other areas such as law, divinity, business, or medicine. The Department of English offers students a choice of studying in three different tracks: Creative Writing, Literature, or Professional and Public Writing.
