Modules include skills portfolio (develop practical and creative composition skills); context and methodology (focus on skills needed for self-directed research); commission project (models the commission process, with students writing a brief, producing a composition and delivering a public performance); sound processing techniques (creative techniques and their application within a compositional framework); visual music (explores the history of visual music alongside a range of practical input in areas such as video editing, animation, motion graphics and interactivity); collaborative and interdisciplinary practice (look beyond the core discipline and work across boundaries).

1st degree; applications are invited from candidates with a range of academic disciplines and from a variety of national backgrounds; portfolio comprising no more than 3 pieces of presentative work; the form of this portfolio depends on the music the candidate makes: CDs, DVDs, scores, documentation of performances or installations, or online material as appropriate are acceptable.

The course covers areas of instrumental, vocal, electronic, digital and multimedia composition; it offers opportunities for students to work across these areas, or to specialise as appropriate; work in a wide range of styles and genres is supported, whilst maintaining an experimental and exploratory approach.
