Students take the compulsory module: Introduction to cinema; students should complete modules worth a minimum of 90 CATS points at level 4 (which must include the compulsory module) and no more than 30 CATS points (1 module) at level 5; compulsory module: Module 1: Introduction to cinema; plus option modules (level 4): television: history and future; the press in Britain; introduction to media studies; contemporary cinema; Britain's Hollywood: Ealing studies; history through cinema; Hollywood now!; cinema genres; stories on screen; Shakespeare on screen; London views; screening Britain: looking at British cinema; British film and television comedy today; women's cinema revisited; critical approaches to underground film; level 5 option modules (these modules have prerequisites): film: narrative and genre; storytelling in television; cultural identity and the media; journalism and politics; media and society; documentary.

This award helps students develop a better understanding of the complex media world; the course draws on the diverse research interests of our panel of lecturers in film, television and media studies and is designed to encourage systematic study of film and media at a high level; studying film and media helps enhance students' ability to interpret the social, economic and cultural structures behind the films, television programmes and newspapers we enjoy; students must successfully complete modules worth a total of 120 CATS points.
