Stage 1: Assessing learner needs; session planning and teaching; teaching learning activities; selecting resources; learner support; 20 hours of teaching practice in a further education context; 2 observed teaching practices by a member of the college team; observation by suitable qualified teachers/trainers in student’s own workplace. Stage 2: Identifying and assessing student need; planning and managing the learning process; using techniques to facilitate learning; principles of learning; communication; resource development; support and guidance; educational issues and personal development; 40 hours of teaching practice in a further education context; 2 observed teaching practices by a member of the college team; observation by suitable qualified teachers/trainers in student’s own workplace.

This course is designed for teachers in further, adult or basic skills education; stage 1 is a one-term course which provides a basic introduction to further education training; stage 2 is a two term course which develops knowledge and skills against the nationally recognised standards for teachers in FE.
