The course begins with a series of case studies and practical classes in the roles; technologies; financial control; scheduling; planning; and health and safety of theatre production; students then work as assistant; progressing to production manager; on public productions; includes a period of secondment working with a professional production company.

Previous training in a practical theatre discipline and/or have worked professionally in a stage management or technical theatre departments.
