Students negotiate their own research topic which, although centred on furniture, can cross boundaries of interest; brief introductory projects are followed by live design projects; a course of lectures on various aspects of production technology; contextual studies; and industrial organisation; the self-directed personal project research programme runs parallel to all other curricular activity.

2:1 degree, not necessarily in furniture design; students from interior design; architecture; product design; engineering; and sculpture are also accepted; interview; a portfolio of previous work; professional qualifications and/or experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
