Year 1: Covers social science subjects such as sociology, social policy and law as well as social work methodology, skills and processes, values and anti-oppressive practice and collaborative working; it ends with a short 20-day practice experience. Year 2: students have the opportunity to develop an understanding of some particular aspects of social work, for example, mental health, family support, or drug use through an 80-day placement, as well as further developing their knowledge. Year 3: allows a focus around particular service user groups as well as a final 100-day placement.

The course integrates Social Work practice and theory; there are 2 block placements (5 full working days per week) in a variety of social work settings, where students are allocated a social work practice teacher who helps them link together theory and practice.
