Animal science seeks to provide a stimulating and challenging experience for students and is intended for those aspiring to work in animal care, welfare or animal based industry; special consideration is given to scientific understanding of animal welfare; the course provides a vehicle for the development of a set of transferable skills appropriate to a wide range of animal care, welfare and management settings, and for further advanced study; the fine and applied arts course is a broad-based, highly practical undergraduate programme designed to recognise individuality, encourage independence and enhance creative and technical expertise; students may decide to follow a predominantly fine art course of studies focusing on drawing, painting, sculpture or printmaking or may wish to apply their creative skills to more design, craft, theoretical or socially-based outcomes; for example, students might choose to work with materials such as ceramics, glass, wood, metals and stone and gain technical skills in such creative processes as: modelling, carving; casting; welding; printmaking; digital and lens-based media; illustration; or even mural design; as the course progresses, there are also opportunities to apply creativity to wider social contexts such as community arts and educational activities.
