Applicants must meet the requirements for the Graduate Basis for Registration of the BPS: an upper 2nd Class degree; applicants are expected to have demonstrated a high level of academic capability, e.g. at least a 2:1 degree; relevant experience is regarded as important for all applicants; this experience must demonstrate that applicants have the necessary clinical, academic and research abilities to complete a highly intensive and personally demanding training programme; applicants who do not intend to work in the NHS will not be considered; trainees are expected to work in the geographical area on qualification; it is not normally possible to defer entry once accepted onto the programme.

The programme trains psychology graduates to become Clinical Psychologists, eligible to be chartered by the British Psychological Society; this qualification allows successful candidates to be employed, usually by the NHS, as practicing Clinical Psychologists; the programme consists of academic work, research and clinical placements.
