The course is aimed at nurses who work in a clinical setting where they have contact with children and young people with cancer and their families; the programme has been developed as a joint initiative between the School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies (Cardiff University) and Macmillan Cancer Relief; the paediatric oncology nurse framework that was developed by Tomlinson (2002) is disseminated through this course; the course is designed to build on nurses' previous knowledge, skills and experiences and will enable them to demonstrate an increased level of competence through higher clinical decision-making skills and the delivery of evidence-based care.
