A broad-based undergraduate program in art addresses many issues facing the contemporary artist. The program aims to develop each student's commitment, knowledge and skills necessary to work in a rapidly changing global culture. Being educated to "work as an artist" can and will prepare individuals for many, widely diverging opportunities. Implicit in the program is the notion that an artist works within a context of many dualities, and the program is a vehicle to explore these dualities, which include: culture/nature tradition/experiment high-technology/low-technology private/public global/local diversity/focus

But if you’re looking to go beyond the nearby vicinity and have mapped out a plan to see more than the obvious, your Carnegie Mellon student ID will double as your bus pass throughout Allegheny County – including the Pittsburgh International Airport.
