A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, with a strong record of academic achievement At least two years of professional or teaching experience. All applicants must submit GRE scores. In general, we look for GRE scores of 160 and above for verbal, 148 and above for quantitative, and 4.5 or above for analytical writing. However, we consider your application as a whole; so lower GRE scores will be considered. Our minimum ibT TOEFL score is 102 total, with minimum subscores of 25. Our minimum IELTS score is 7.5, with no score lower than 7.

Through a combination of studio and seminar courses, students from non-design backgrounds are introduced to the fundamentals of designing for interactions, learning design processes, skills, and thinking. Fall Semesters Year One: Students first focus on visual skill development and the understanding of design thinking, methods, and processes. Spring Semesters Year One: Students expand on their visual and prototyping skills to acquire a better understanding of design for interactions and gain exposure to the broader role and impact of design in the world.

You can always find something new in the city of Pittsburgh. Between the 88 neighborhoods and districts and the 10 colleges with 86,000 students in the area – there’s so much to explore and so many different types of people to meet along with things to do in Pittsburgh.

Oakland, Shadyside and Squirrel Hill are the closest neighborhoods to campus and easy to explore by foot. But if you’re looking to go beyond the nearby vicinity and have mapped out a plan to see more than the obvious, your Carnegie Mellon student ID will double as your bus pass throughout Allegheny County – including the Pittsburgh International Airport.
