The M.S. program, built upon the interdisciplinary, collaborative culture of Carnegie Mellon University, provides an ideal opportunity for career advancement in biomedical engineering or transitions from other disciplines into biomedical engineering. The large degree of flexibility and wide choice of research advisors allow M.S. education to be tailored according to the student's personal goal, from R&D in biotechnology, healthcare, to university faculty. A practicum course provides opportunities for clinical exposure at local hospitals. Students may choose between the traditional Research-Option M.S. program and the accelerated Practicum-Option M.S. program. The latter may further be combined with the Program of Engineering & Technology Innovation Management or Program of Technology Ventures to form a dual M.S. program.

You can always find something new in the city of Pittsburgh. Between the 88 neighborhoods and districts and the 10 colleges with 86,000 students in the area – there’s so much to explore and so many different types of people to meet along with things to do in Pittsburgh.

Oakland, Shadyside and Squirrel Hill are the closest neighborhoods to campus and easy to explore by foot. But if you’re looking to go beyond the nearby vicinity and have mapped out a plan to see more than the obvious, your Carnegie Mellon student ID will double as your bus pass throughout Allegheny County – including the Pittsburgh International Airport.
