Year 1: Students complete a number of set units that allow students to develop the basic skills necessary for creating a performance, through a series of taught classes and workshops and realised projects; students undertake a stage management role on a realised production, working with students from the BA (Hons) Acting and other courses. Year 2: Students develop skills further on a number of realised productions working closely with fellow students on other Theatre Practice strands and other courses and visiting professionals; projects range from main-house, proscenium theatre shows to site-specific, fringe work, or projects outside Central including outdoor theatre, circus etc; students are also required to operate sound and lighting on small-scale productions; students participate in a number of workshops that include pyrotechnics, stage management for opera, and tour and event management. Year 3: The emphasis is on taking greater responsibility for the management of a stage management team; students are also expected to create links with their chosen area of the industry and to spend some time working outside Central to make the journey from the academic world to the professional as seamless as possible.

The curriculum emphasises the role throughout rehearsals as a conduit between the Director and the Production Team, on the management of performance and on prop sourcing; students are introduced to a model of practice that underpins the 'traditional British theatre' as experienced in commercial and subsidised sectors; through realised production opportunities, students also experience alternative methods of practice including small-scale 'fringe', devised, physical, visual, and site-specific theatre; such production opportunities include the observation of, and participation in, a variety of professional settings within the entertainment industry.
