Students study: Newspaper journalism; newspaper law; central and local government; shorthand (Teeline) up to 100 words per minute; with opportunities to develop skills in other areas such as keyboard skills and design and page layout.
Вступительные требования
Degree plus a minimum of 2 weeks full-time work experience in a provincial newspaper or newsroom environment (evidence of this is expected to be presented at interview); all candidates are interviewed and sit a national entrance exam.

The NCTJ is a practical based course which is very much hands on, where students are expected to produce real stories for the newspapers on a weekly basis; work experience is a crucial element of the course and successful applicants spend a week during the course working in the newspaper industry; 1 hour a week is spent looking at the ethics of journalism.
