In each year students study for a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) module which is spread over the year, in parallel with 2 or 3 modules in relevant core subjects which are taught sequentially; this means that participants will not be working on more than 2 modules at any time during their studies; the course consists of 2 CPD modules of 30 credits each and 5 modules of 20 credits each giving a total of 160 credits at university level 1.

For those involved with, or employed in civil protection, or have a responsibility for emergency or business continuity management, or contingency planning, this course is designed to give a national qualification in contingency management aimed at the 'silver' level of operational management; the course has been developed in close collaboration with the Emergency Planning Team at Cornwall County Council and recognises students' individual skills seeking to integrate these in the context of multi-agency working within the parameters laid down by the Civil Contingencies Act, 2004.
