1st or 2nd class Honours degree or equivalent in an appropriate scientific (not arts) discipline; a lesser qualification with relevant professional experience may be acceptable; students whose native language is not English, must attain an IELTS score of 7.

The emphasis throughout the course is on the application of engineering and the physical sciences to forensic problems; it is designed to give a broad introduction to the subject, rapidly advancing into the understanding of the cutting-edge research and latest techniques; the course is highly practical and hands-on, aiming to produce forensic experts capable of giving an expert opinion in a courtroom situation and elsewhere; the main body of the course comes after a 2-week period of introductory studies and consists of 10 compulsory modules and one elective module selected from a choice of 4; most modules are of 5 days duration, interspersed with weeks devoted to private study and visits to forensic science establishments; after successful completion of the taught phase of the course, each Master's student undertake a research project.; PgDip students are required to complete the taught phase only.
