The course provides opportunities for the modelling of specific systems and practical experience with relevant computer software; it is suitable for those seeking a broader understanding of the principles of operational research and the methods and techniques applicable to industrial and military systems which lead to better decision-making; Master of Science students must complete the taught phase, consisting of 8 standard modules (including the 2 core modules) and 4 advanced modules, followed by an individual project thesis in a relevant topic; thesis topics are related to problems of specific interest to students and sponsors or local industry wherever possible; PgDip students are required to undertake the taught phase without the project; PgCert students must complete the 2 core standard modules together with any 4 other modules; up to 3 of these may be advanced modules; each standard module consists of a 1-week course of lectures and practical sessions followed by 1 week of assessed directed study.
