Entry requirements Applicants should have a first or second class UK honours degree or equivalent in a related discipline, such as physics, material science and engineering. The ideal candidate should have some understanding in the area of solid mechanics modelling or experiments. The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communication skills for regular interaction with other stakeholders, with an interest for industrial research. Funding The funding will be open to all UK, EU and International students. About the sponsor Sponsored by EPSRC, this studentship will provide a bursary of up to £16,000 - £ 19,000 p.a. (tax free) plus fees* for three years.

 Why study for a research degree at Cranfield?

This work will develop 3D multiscale and Multiphysics crystal plasticity models to assess the potency for fatigue crack growth after different loading scenarios. This project is part of the Through-life Engineering Services Centre and the student will benefit from the industrial interactions and research collaborations. The candidate will cooperate with industrial partners to link fundamental materials research with manufacturing routes to develop novel technologies and improve the science base of manufacturing research.
