All years: Practical journalism; media law; public affairs; shorthand; news video production; online journalism. You will be expected to be in college four days a week with the Fridays being used for work experience, directed study and research. Assessment methods: During the course students sit national examinations in journalism, media law and public affairs; these exams are set externally and are moderated by the national council for the training of journalists (NCTJ); students must also achieve 100wpm in shorthand and are required to produce a portfolio of work which will be assessed by the NCTJ.

Students are required to sit a 2 hour assessment before being accepted on the course; this course is the industry qualification for entry into newspaper journalism; this qualification will help students become a reporter with a local weekly or daily newspaper.
