The emphasis of the programme is on the integration of theory with reflective practice, and on developing a perspective on human interaction, human development and human family relationships; the approach explores how attitudes and beliefs are shaped within a family and how they in turn influence the developing infant, child and adolescent, and how they are subsequently reflected in the individuals belief system, life choices and relationship; the training includes DSM IV diagnosis, assessment and therapeutic strategies for working with children, adolescents and families; stress is placed on the presence, openness and authenticity of the therapist, an acceptance of non ordinary states of consciousness, a respect for the client's self healing capacities and methods that evoke these capacities, a view of dysfunction and crisis as an opportunity for growth, and on the therapist as an expert facilitator rather than physician; the programme is divided into 6 teaching and 4 practical modules totalling 180 Master's-level credits.
