High school graduate. SAT and two SAT Subject Tests or ACT with Writing. We dont have minimun scores for SAT or ACT. Median scores of accepted students: SAT Verbal/Critical Reading: 680-790; SAT Math: 700-800; SAT Writing:700-790; ACT Composite: 31-35. We recommend but do not require the TOEFL or the IELTS. A minimum score of 100 on the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT)—or 250 on the computer-based TOEFL (CBT) or 600 on the paper-based TOEFL (PBT) is expected for all applicants to Duke. While not required for admission, interviews provide an opportunity for the applicant to learn about Duke and for a representative of the university to learn about the applicant's strengths. We have alumni volunteers conducting interviews in forty-two countries worldwide. You are encouraged to include a portfolio of recent works.

In addition to offering students the opportunity to major in Art History or Visual Art, for those interested in studying both the history and practice of Art, a joint major is offered. This major, consisting of fourteen courses, condenses some of the course work needed in the individual majors, providing the student with a deeper understanding and a strong implementation of how practice and history can be joined together in unique interdisciplinary ways.
