EMLE is a postgraduate course, and preference will be given to applicants who have already a first master’s degree. The minimum requirement for admission is a bachelor degree in law or economics (for other degrees see below), provided that this degree leads up to employability in the relevant labour market (see below).
Other degrees
Applicants with a degree in business administration, social sciences or other relevant topics may also apply under the condition that the completed study programme includes a substantial number of courses in law and/or economics. The accepted tests and accompanying scores are:
a. International TOEFL
- Paper-based: 587 (minimum reading: 313, listening: 310, speaking: 340, writing: 353)
- Computer-based: 240 (minimum reading: 43, listening: 40, speaking: 60, writing: 67)
- Internet-based: 95 (minimum reading: 13, listening: 12: speaking: 18, writing: 21)
b. IELTS (academic module)
- Minimum score of 6.5 (minimum per section: 6.0)
c. Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English
- Grades A, B, C
d. Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English
- Grades A, B, C

The law and the economy interact in many ways. Whereas private law assists individuals and groups who are willing to enter into agreements in a free market, public law seeks to correct the outcomes of a free market system by means of economic and social regulation. Economists themselves should be informed about the legal environment in which economic activities must be conducted, while lawyers should be aware of the economic effects of current legal rules and the expected outcome under a different legal regime. Law & Economics meshes together two of society’s fundamental social constructs into one subject, allowing a multi-faceted study of significant problems which exist in each subject.
