2 professional preparation modules: A review of the learning process and management of the learning environment; and the consideration of the learning school; plus 4 main subject pathway modules: an introduction to teaching your subject; developing the teaching of your subject; broadening the teaching of your subject; and extending the teaching of your subject; these all run concurrently and compliment the trainees’ school placements.

1st degree, preferably in the subject to be taught; plus GCSE grade C or equivalent in English and mathematics and relevant experience.

During the autumn term, there is a three week University-based induction period following which the trainee is placed in a parent school until the October break; after the break there is a 7-week period during which time trainees have between 9-11 hours teaching time in their main subject; there are also weekly tutorials and time to research and prepare for assignments and teaching; during the spring term trainees are placed in a twin school during which they have 11-13 hours teaching time; observation of classes in the main subject take place at the beginning of the 1st week, so that students can begin teaching their main subject as soon as possible; during the summer term trainees return to their parent school where their teaching timetable increases to 13-15 hours; teaching begins on the 1st day of the placement.
