Core courses cover: the history and context of community arts and its cross-cultural perspectives; the planning communication and art form delivery skills necessary to deliver participatory arts workshops; current arts strategy and public funding policy; the core skills necessary to deliver arts programmes and workshops; plus options including: Brecht to Boal; digital media for social change; applied world music; or the relationship between identity and education.

2nd Class Honours degree in a relevant discipline; those with practical experience in professional or community arts; portfolio outlining achievements and reasons for wanting to pursue the course.

The course enables students to deepen their understanding of the contexts of the arts in other sectors such as: Education; healthcare; youth work; prisons; and business and regeneration; it also gives a grounding in the practical theoretical and management skills necessary to develop their career; the programme is delivered in partnership with the National Theatre Education and Training Department.
