The course is based on seminars, formal lectures, practical assignments and workshop study; the modules in the first year of the programme offer students the range of skills they need whatever their specialism; both traditional and computer-aided design methods are encouraged as well as consideration of all the contexts - social, economic, aesthetic, political and environmental - within which design operates; the second and third years of study develop the student's appreciation of design and a personal approach to their specialist pathway.
