Level 0: Foundation year offered at Kingston College. Level 1: typical modules include: dynamic earth; historical geology; understanding the environment; investigating the earth and environment 1 and 2; hazards, resources and society; rocks and minerals; geological structures and sedimentary rocks. Level 2: typical modules include: earth resources; tectonics and structural geology; deep earth processes and interactions; history of life; geoscience fieldwork; exploration and evaluation techniques; sedimentary environments and basins; igneous and metamorphic petrology. Level 3: typical modules include: economic geology; engineering geology and hydrogeology; environmental geoscience; applied geophysics and computer modelling; geoscience fieldwork; field project; applied sedimentology.

This course examines the role of geology in the development of natural resources and in the construction and mining industries; it is students who want to explore the applications of geology (eg in civil engineering) and the role that geologists play in the discovery, extraction and environmentally acceptable use of resources such as water, minerals and metals.
