Level 1: Learning the skills involved and practice of design, and the issues that arise out of contexts for design; project work focuses on creativity, design concepts and outcomes. Level 2: making decisions about the design direction that is most suited to students personal design practice; many of the briefs are live projects associated with various outside agencies. Level 3: students will undertake an in-depth study into an aspect of design; research carried out will feed into, and give substance to, the self-directed project work.

The heart of the course is focussed on creativity, human needs, and the generation of new insights and ideas; students will develop a foundation of practical, digital and research skills, knowledge of historical and contemporary design issues, engage with critical debate and explore a range of design disciplines; in level 2 students will work towards a design direction that best suits their personal design practice; one that can form the basis of their work in level 3; the course offers various design directions including: product design; furniture design; 3-dimensional textiles design; design with digital media; spatial design; sustainable design; design studies; inclusive design; students have the opportunity to work with industrial and design agencies, to study in Europe, enter design competitions, learn practical skills in areas such as textiles, graphical communication, multimedia design, copywriting and video, modelling in the workshops and on the computer; students will develop a portfolio and create a personal development plan.
