This journalism degree takes a dual strand approach; the practical strand teaches the key journalistic skills of sourcing and research, editing and layout and how to write news articles and features; the theoretical strand offers an insight into the environment in which journalists work providing an understanding of the role of journalism in a 'rolling news' culture and the ways in which journalism and news play their part in modern society; these two strands of study come together in newsroom simulation exercises and through the professional work placement undertaken in the 1st and 2nd years of the course.
