Level 1: Two introductory modules will be taught in the first year; one will be concerned with history, theory and the social and cultural background to practice; the second will be concerned with all areas of production and post-production in film and television. Level 2: Students will continue with a theoretical sound and vision and culture and industry strand, and select modules from areas such as: film drama; video production technology; studio broadcast. Level 3: All students will undertake sound and vision theory – aesthetics and technology; in addition, students may select from a range of modules including: documentary practice; animation practice; film drama practice.

The course combines practical video and audio production skills with a theoretical understanding to underpin contemporary practice and can provide students with a historical, theoretical and practical/technical understanding of developments in sound and vision, transmission and communication; plus knowledge of how the industry works and how it is changing will be central to the degree; issues such as copyright, policy, ethics and marketing will be taught alongside the rise of new media areas such as web-based video.
